OMALIZUMAB!!

Omalizumab, um AcM que tem sido apresentado como um grande avanço no tratamento da asma, foi avaliado pela Prescrire. O veredicto é: "Not Acceptable". "When severe allergic asthma is anedequately controled by a steroid plus a long-acting beta-2 agonist, the addition of omalizumab seems to prevent one emergency about every 3 patient-years. in the short term there is a risk of pottentially severe anaphylactic reactions. Long-term adverse effects are unknown but may include an increased risk of cancer. We consider it imprudent to use omalizumab until additional data become available. It is better to focus on the proper use of existing treatments."
